In conjunction with A Taste of Culture, L.E.A.P (Leaders, Educators and Alphas of Philander) is excited to announce its recruitment drive for West Coast students interested in enrolling in Philander Smith College, an HBCU. The event will be held on August 6, at 6 p.m., during the Parks After Dark End of Summer Extravaganza at Loma Alta Park in Altadena.

A Taste of Culture is a nonprofit organization that promotes health and wellness through Arts, Culture, and Education. Their S.To.P.P. (School to Philander Pipeline) Initiative is a life-changing action plan that focuses on creating pipelines for students to attend our HBCUs and stay on a pathway to success. Diversity in higher education is paramount. It equates to diversity across industries and fields, ultimately molding an inclusive, well-rounded, and positive society. With HBCU graduates accounting for 20% of all Black graduates, 80% of all Black judges, and 70% of all Black doctors and dentists, the S.To.P.P. is committed to supporting HBCUs in their mission of maintaining and improving the graduation of black professionals.

The Philander Smith College Fair is designed to help students and parents navigate the college admissions, financial aid and scholarship opportunities. Prospective students will be edified on the college application process and the advantages of an HBCU education. Most importantly, attendees will have the opportunity to speak with alumnus from the college and an opportunity to apply directly to the college during the event and receive acceptance to the college with a 3.0 GPA or higher.
