The powerful, infallible word of God takes center stage at the New Year’s Day Prayer Bowl sponsored by Pastor Melvin V. Wade, Sr. and the Mount Moriah Baptist Church of Los Angeles.
Six legendary ministers will preach at the annual service set for Tuesday, January 1, at 8:30 a.m., in the Mount Moriah sanctuary at 4269 South Figueroa Street in Los Angeles.
“God has ordained that we hold the Annual Prayer Bowl which was started more than 60 years ago by Dr. Earl A. Pleasant, the founder of Mount Moriah, and people respond by coming year after year,” said Dr. Wade.
“God has given us the privilege to see another year, so we ought to thank Him in a godly fashion.”
Sermons will be delivered each hour starting at 9 a.m. The guest preachers (in order of appearance) are Bishop L. Daniel Williams, pastor of the Baptist Church of the New Covenant in Norwalk; Bishop T. Larry Kirkland, Sr., presiding prelate of the 5th Episcopal District of the A.M.E. Church; the Rev. Wayne Chaney, Jr., pastor of Antioch Church of Long Beach; Bishop Andrew C. Turner II, pastor of Covenant Worship Center in Inglewood; the Rev. Xavier L. Thompson, pastor of Southern Missionary Baptist Church in Los Angeles; and the Rev. Michael J. T. Fisher, pastor of Greater Zion Church Family in Compton.
“These Pastors represent a wide-ranging spectrum. In the African American community, there are a wide variety of presentations of the Gospel, yet there is only one gospel. So, what we try to have is unity in diversity,” Dr. Wade said.
Quaford Coleman, a member of Mount Moriah, noted, “The community comes together to hear God’s voice through the preachers. Meals will be available as well. You don’t have to leave once you get there. Just come and be blessed.”
