The Water Replenishment District (WRD) has entered into a cooperative agreement with the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) to create the Joint Los Angeles Basin Replenishment and Extraction Master Plan (Master Plan).

The LADWP Board of Water and Power Commissioners unanimously approved this agreement at their board meeting today, February 26, 2019. The agreement was also unanimously approved by the WRD Board of Directors last week.

This agreement will help fulfill Mayor Garcetti’s goal to reuse all of the recycled water from the Hyperion Water Reclamation Plant by 2035

The Master Plan will evaluate projects for replenishment and extraction of the West and Central Groundwater Basins that will greatly increase  local and sustainable solution towards regional water independence. The centerpiece of the Master Plan will be to analyze the potential to maximize recycled water use at the Hyperion Water Reclamation Plant,  and other regional water reclamation plants.

“We are thrilled to enter into this visionary agreement with LADWP so that our water supply is sustainable and secure,” said WRD Board President John Allen. “This is a huge step in the right direction for WRD’s goal for complete independence from Northern California water- a goal that is now shared with LADWP.”
