A man has been sentenced to 25 years in state prison for shooting at Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies in Lawndale four years ago, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.
Travis Herr (dob 7/16/91) pleaded no contest to two counts of assault with a firearm on a peace officer. He was immediately sentenced to 25 years in state prison by Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Alan Honeycutt.
Deputy District Attorney Geoff Lewin of the Crimes Against Peace Officers Section prosecuted the case.
On Oct. 29, 2014, Herr began firing various weapons in the 4200 block of West 164th Street in Lawndale. Authorities placed the neighborhood on lockdown as they evacuated nearby residents, the prosecutor said.
Herr then shot at responding law enforcement officers from both inside and outside his home. No deputies were injured.
After more than two hours, Herr was shot by return gunfire and taken to an area hospital.
Case YA091505 was investigated by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
