The 83rd annual Kappa Alpha Psi will be held Saturday, November 23, 2019, at the Renaissance Airport Hotel.  For many, the Kappa Black and White Ball is the kick-off to the Los Angeles African American Social Season.

For 83 years, the Los Angeles Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity has provided scholarships to deserving young men and young ladies from funds raised at the Black and White Ball.  Kappa men are committed to achievement, excellence, leadership and community service by improving and addressing the social, economic and educational challenges that impact our communities, as well as our nation.

This year’s Kappa Kourt will consist of nine ladies and nine young undergraduate men from USC, UCLA, CSUN and CSULA.  This year’s kourt coordinator is Sherrell Raglin, DM and MBA.  Raglin has helped and supported the Kourt for over seven years. She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.   Two distinguished individuals will also be honored at this year’s event.  Assemblymember representing the 54thAssembly District, Sydney Kamlager-Dove will be receiving the Humanitarian Service Lifetime Achievement Award (Community Service Award).  Assemblymember Kamlager-Dove is a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority. Brother Lawrence Reney of Kappa Alpha Psi will be receiving the Theodore Alexander Lifetime Achievement Award (Chapter Award).

“I am so proud of everything that we have been able to achieve through the Black and White Ball. The support we receive from our Brothers from all across the region and the general public, make this one of the showcase events in our community.  And because of the support we receive, we have been able to provide hundreds of thousands of dollars of support to young people throughout the area over the past 83 years,” stated Brother Michale Pyles – chairman of this year’s Black and White Ball committee.

“Michael Pyles has served as chairman of the Black and White Committee for the past seven years.  He and his committee continue to put on a stallworth event each and every year.”

This year’s Master of Ceremony is DeMarco Morgan, a CBS Channel 2 News co-anchor and a member of Kappa Alpha Psi.  Demarco recently joined the Los Angeles news team and is already making a great impact in the community.  This formal event will include dinner, dancing, the kourt pageantry, live entertainment and an after party.

Derek Hamilton, Sr. is the Los Angeles Alumni Chapter Polemarch and encourages everyone to come out, have a good time and support this elegant and meaningful event.
