Nestled at the peak of View Park, Issa Rae’s Hilltop Coffee + Kitchen at 4427 W. Slauson in South L.A. brings together a welcoming atmosphere, community networking, delicious food and drinks with live music.
“Jammin on the Hill” is an age 21+ jam session hosted every third Thursday of the month. The doors open at 6:30PM, and the concert runs from 7:30PM to 10 PM including a brief intermission. Seating is intimate, and most guests who arrive after 7:30 have to occupy the standing råoom area, so early arrival is highly recommended.
The evening features a full house band—drummer, bassist, and pianist—that brings genres like funk, R&B, and soul to life.

Headlining the October session was the electrifying Chamira Patrice, “But you can call me ‘Chimmy!’” she said as she smiled at the audience. A belting, dynamic, songstress, Chimmy wowed the crowd with a setlist of R&B Pop and Soul classics, including “I Wanna Be Down” by Brandy, “Rock With You” by Michael Jackson, “On & On” by Erykah Badu, “Tell Me Something Good” by Rufus and “Killing Me Softly” by Lauryn Hill.
Chimmy even took a moment to serenade the crowd with a special birthday rendition for Tara King’s father. King, the Head of Brand Marketing and Partnerships at Hilltop, later shared a few words with the crowd, noting, “If y’all don’t know, we’ve been doing this since 2018. Support your local Black-owned business!” as Chimmy closed her set with the classic hit, “Before I Let You Go”.
Chimmy also invited her friend and fellow singer, Dzhari, to the stage. Dzhari performed a stunning cover of “Angel” by Anita Baker and delivered her own original song, “Save Me,” the singular original song of the night.
The event was a true community affair, where guests enjoyed a range of delicious bites for purchase like fried chicken sliders, chicken quesadillas, cornbread, and loaded tots. Specialty drinks included lattes, teas, and a selection of wines, making it the perfect night out for food, drink, and music lovers alike.
A free event, Jammin’ on the Hill embodies the spirit of Hilltop Coffee + Kitchen, where the motto reads: “For centuries, the mountaintop has been a symbol for dreamers & doers.” Fittingly, the event serves as a platform for incredible Black talent to shine under these inspiring words, continuing to celebrate the community and its rich musical heritage. Don’t miss out on next month’s session!
