The Sherlett Hendy-Newbill campaign just got another huge boost! As Election Day, Tuesday Nov. 5 draws nearer, Congresswoman Maxine Waters announced her endorsement of Hendy-Newbill, building on the continued momentum of a campaign journey that began over a year ago.
“I’ve seen a lot of school board candidates in my time, but Sherlett is as strong as they come! She has the education, experience, and passion to serve as a board member who will put the needs of children first and fight for what our communities need – and she’s ready to get to work,” insisted Waters.

“She’s been a teacher, coach, athletic director, dean of students, and a proud parent of two children in Board District #1. Sherlett gets it. She gets how to make a real difference in our schools. She knows how to boost academic achievement, keep our schools safe, and build a culture of success. She’s got great ideas to expand career and technical education,” said Waters.
Sherlett stated with a smile, “I am so excited to announce that the Honorable Congresswoman Maxine Waters has endorsed me! I am truly honored to receive the blessing of the amazing Auntie Maxine!
“Her words are incredibly inspiring, and her example is one that I aspire to model as a servant of the LAUSD Board District 1 community of schools.
In addition to Waters, Sherlett is endorsed by the outgoing Board Member Dr. George J. McKenna and 3 other board members in addition to the Los Angeles Times, the Los Angeles Sentinel, UTLA and the Democratic Party.
