Jazz at Drewfull artist line-up features: The Ohio Players, Louie Cruz Beltran, Will Downing, Next, Toni Scruggs and more!

Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science (CDU) is pleased to announce the full artist line-up for the 22nd Jazz at Drew concert to be held Saturday, October 5, on the campus of the University in South Los Angeles. This year’s event will be headlined by Grammy-nominated artist Will Downing, and also feature electrifying performances by The Ohio Players, Next, Louie Cruz Beltran and the Lao Tizer Band featuring Eric Marienthal and Karen Briggs. Opening performance by L.A. artist, Toni Scruggs.

The annual concert is both a community event and a fundraiser for scholarships, student support services and pipeline programs that help interest youth from pre-K through high school in underserved communities in math, science and health professions as a career. CDU, which features a College of Medicine, a College of Science and Health and the Mervyn M. Dymally School of Nursing has been a champion of health equity and healthcare access to all since its founding in 1966. The University has graduated or trained over 7,000 physicians, nurses, physician assistants, as well as allied and public health professionals over the last five decades.

“The vast majority of physicians and other health professionals trained at CDU go on to practice in some of the most underserved communities in Los Angeles and throughout the nation,” explained CDU President/CEO David M. Carlisle, PhD, MD. “Funds raised by this concert will help the University with its mission of creating healthier communities in under-resourced areas.”
