Reynaldo Rey, the actor-comedian who appeared in such films as Friday and White Men Can’t Jump, has died. He was 75.
Rey’s manager Vanzil Burke says he died May 28, at a Los Angeles hospital from complications after suffering a stroke.
His career in show business spanned more than 30 years. Rey’s film credits include Harlem Nights, House Party 3, For Da Love of Money and Far Out Man. Rey also appeared in the TV series 227, Sister, Sister and The Parent ‘Hood.
Rey was born in Sequoyah County, Okla., and began his acting career with an appearance in the TV series Sanford in 1981. Some of his other small screen credits include The Bernie Mac Show, The Royal Family, The Wayans Bros and Everybody Hates Chris.
“Rest in peace to my dear friend and 227 co-star, Reynaldo Rey,” actress Jackée Harry tweeted on Thursday. “‘Red’ will always hold a place in my heart. xox.”
Rey started out as a stand-up comedian. He opened for Redd Foxx for several years and appeared on such shows as BET’s Comic View.
He is survived by his wife, daughter, two sons and mother.
