In the wake of an unprecedented rise in the number of vaccine-preventable diseases including measles in California in 2019, City Attorney Mike Feuer today was joined by officials from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health to announce they have put non-conforming schools with kindergartens on notice that they must report the number of students vaccinated, or face possible legal consequences.

A California state jury issued a verdict in favor of a married couple, Alberta and Alva Pilliod, who—in a lawsuit against the Monsanto Company—attributed their cancers to the use of Monsanto’s Roundup and other glyphosate-based herbicides, and to the company’s failure to properly warn of the risks. The jury awarded the couple $2 billion. Monsanto was acquired last summer by the German agrochemical and drug giant Bayer.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) today awarded nearly $492 million to the State of California to support recovery efforts from the 2018 Camp, Hill and Woolsey Wildfires devastating communities in Butte, Los Angeles and Ventura Counties.
