The Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros men’s and women’s basketball teams made history over the weekend when both programs won the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) tournament championship.
For the first time in Division II history, a men’s and women’s basketball program from the same university won the in-season and conference tournament championship in the same season.
Dominguez Hills senior forward Asia Jordan and grad student guard Jordan Hilstock were named 2025 CCAA All-Tournament MVP for the women’s and men’s tournament respectively.
“We’re building off of last season, we haven’t gotten to that stage or that part, that much success last year,” Hilstock said. “Coming back with a strong core, we all knew what it takes to get there.”

The women’s 2025 CCAA All-Tournament team included three Toros: Jordan, junior guard Nala Williams, and freshman forward Cristina Jones. Hilstock and senior forward Adam Afifi were named on the men’s CCAA All-Tournament team.
Williams noted how Jordan is the heart of the Toros women’s basketball team. In their 77-54 championship victory against the Cal Poly Pomona Broncos, Jordan scored 14 points and seven rebounds. In their Semifinal 56-45 win over the Sonoma State Seawolves, Jordan made 11 points and 11 rebounds.
“Every one listens to her vocally and her energy carries over to everyone else,” Williams said. “I felt personally that I need to step my game up [Saturday] because of how hard she worked [Friday].”

Prior to the CCAA Tournament, several Toros earned conference honors. Williams became CCAA Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year. She leads the nation in total steals with 131 as of Tuesday. Williams also leads the conference with 17.4 points per game.
Jones was named CCAA Freshman of the Year. She dropped 15 points and 11 rebounds in their victory over Cal Poly Pomona.
Hilstock became the first Cal State Dominguez Hills student to earn CCAA Defensive Player of the Year. He led the Toros with 22 points and six rebounds in their 74-68 conference title win over Chico State.
In their game against Cal Poly Pomona, the Toros women had a 41-25 lead by halftime. The Broncos ultimately made 26 turnovers, giving the Toros a 16-point benefit.
“I think our coach always instilled in us to be dominant inside, always make sure we got that position,” Jordan said. “Setting screens, rolling hard to get in position to be able to score.”
For the men, the Toros held the Chico Wildcats to 25.8 percent from three-point range.
“I think we just knew it was gonna be a physical, hard fought game,” Afifi said. “Our motto is always defense, rebounding and toughness. I feel like we executed that.”
Both Toros teams earned a first-round bye due to them having the top seed in their respective tournaments.
In their 93-82 Semifinal win over the Cal Poly Humboldt Lumberjacks, junior guard Jeremy Dent-Smith scored 32 points. He was one of five players who scored in the double figures in the matchup.
