To celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Buffalo Soldiers, the Disneyland Resort and SALUTE, a Disneyland Resort Diversity Resource Group committed to providing a military perspective that will enhance the cast and guest experience, held a special flag retreat ceremony on Aug. 26 to honor the Buffalo Soldiers of the 9th and 10th Calvary Association. The Buffalo Soldiers were established by Congress in 1866 as the first African American regiments of the U.S. Army. Honorees at the flag retreat ceremony included veterans from World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War.
Descendants of two Buffalo Soldiers also were in attendance including Bobby McDonald, president of the Orange County Black Chamber of Commerce. On Aug. 27, the OC Black Chamber of Commerce presented their 2016 Veterans and Business Award to the Buffalo Solider National Museum at the Disneyland Hotel during their 25th annual banquet.
