Mothers In Action, Taste of Soul and their community partner’s 5th Annual Community Cleanup/Recycling event was a great success. Hundreds of community members lined up in their vehicles around the Los Angeles Sentinel block to shred sensitive documents and recycle electronics and other hazardous unwanted waste at no cost to them on March 24, 2018. Voter registration was also made available thanks to one of the sponsors, Ladies of A.K.A. Sorority, Inc (Alpha Gamma Omega Chapter).
The event was so well organized and received by residents that nearly 1,000 community members took advantage of the service. Brigitte Richards said, “I am happy to be able to dispose of unwanted articles from my home and clean out my garage.” She believes that this helps prevent dumping in our community and was thankful to the event’s sponsors.
Empowerment Congress West Area Neighborhood Development Council (ECWA) was once again, the proud sponsor of the free shredding services for this highly anticipated event.
Other sponsors were Taste of Soul, LA Sentinel Newspaper, LA Watts Times, Assemblyman Reggie Jones-Sawyer, Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas, LA Council President Herb Wesson, City National Bank, Clean Harbors, Copy City, Denny’s, Holman UMC, LA Sanitation, LA Conservation Corps, LAPD, Public Works and Shred-It USA.
“Mothers In Action is thankful for our village of partners, sponsors and volunteers,” said President Tracy Mitchell.
