The Los Angeles – San Diego District of the CME Church sponsored “Love for Your Journey” on March 27, and the response was overwhelming. A huge crowd tuned in for the international, intercontinental, interdenominational and interracial virtual event.
The Christian Coalition, a collaboration of the Christian community that includes the CME Church’s L.A.-S.D. Department of Evangelism and the Christians 4 Salvation outreach ministry, sponsored the program, which focused on the emotional and spiritual impact COVID-19.
According to Dr. Vanilla Brooks, Evangelism Dept. chair, the event was presented to “encourage both Christians and non-Christians, assuring them of God’s Love, and His individual plan for each.” The participants included the Rev. Travis Morris, L.A.-S.D. presiding elder, who rendered the opening prayer; the Rev. Thomas Ross, who captivated the crowd by playing the saxophone; and uplifting selections performed by Danette Armstead, Clydene Jackson, the Rev. David Pearson and Vincent Pierson.
Also, Debra Pearson, Dessie Tyson, Nancy McKee, Rev. Karen Bradford, Rev. Oliver Buie, Rose White, Rev. Karen Piggee, Viola Pearson, Georgia Allen, Robbie Richards, Julie Baldwin, and Amelia Lee delivered a range of scriptures and affirmations.
“Rev. Harold Godwin, a Christian pastor from Lusaka, Zambia, assured attendees that, ‘Africa is praying for America.’ He also encouraged everyone to have faith in God, that He will take care of us and to pursue peace,” said Dr. Brooks, who added that the Rev. Rodney Wooten led a prayer of salvation.
Other features of the program were the blessing of babies born during the pandemic and the rededication of lives to Christ by several believers. Elder Morris offered prayers of covering for both groups as well as all in attendance.
Viewers were moved by the events as evidenced by their positive comments in the chat box. The remarks included “Thank you, the program was great” said Rev. Bradford. “I was really blessed by the service today,” declared Rugenia from Florida. “This was the spiritual shot in the arm we all need in these uncertain, troubling times,” insisted Toni, a nurse practitioner, and “Fantastic praises for ‘Love for Your Journey!’” shouted Elder Rick.
