The Twenty-Fifth Session of the Annual Conference of The Southern California Region of The Ninth Episcopal District Christian Methodist Episcopal Church and the 100th Year of Witness in California will convene on Sunday, August 22 through Wednesday, August 25, 2010. It will be held at The Four Points by Sheraton LAX Hotel, 9750 Airport Boulevard, Los Angeles, California, hosted by The Hays Tabernacle C.M.E. Church, Los Angeles, California, Rev. Joseph C. Gardner, Sr., Host Pastor. Rev. Peris J. Lester, I, Host Presiding Elder-Los Angeles-San Diego District, Rev. Napoleon Goshay, Presiding Elder-Los Angeles District, Rev. Julio A. Andujo, Regional Administrator, Mrs. Delois Walker, First Lady of The Ninth Episcopal District, and Newly Appointed Bishop James B. Walker, Presiding Prelate of the Ninth Episcopal District. The C.M.E. Quadrennial Theme is: “An Essential Church”: Poised for 21st Century Ministry,” and The Ninth Episcopal District Theme:”Making Strong Churches, Breaking Strongholds!” (Matthew 16:17-19)
Highlights of The Annual Conference of The Southern California Region
The Annual Conference will covene on Sunday, August 22rd at The Four Points by Sheraton LAX Hotel with Registration beginning at 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. The fee is $50.00 per person. The Opening Business Session will be 3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. with The Joint Board of Finance and the Presiding Elders. 4:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. will be the Bishop’s Cabinet Meeting. Dinner will served 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. The Opening “Holy Communion” Service of Worship will begin at 7:00 p.m. Rev. Joseph C. Gardner, Host Pastor, will be the Worship Leader. The Holy Communion Evening Preacher will be Rev. Dr. James Markham, Pastor or Emmanuel Temple C.M.E. Church in Victorville, CA. The Music Ministry will be provided by The Southern California Mass Choir and the ushers on duty will be The Southern California Annual Conference Ushers.

Monday, August 23th is “Women in Ministry Day.” Registration will begin at 8:00 a.m. and the fee is $50. The Opening Meditation will be 9:00 – 9:30 a.m. featuring Rev. Gloria Marshall-Coburn, Pastor of Word of Faith in Barstow, CA, as the Speaker. The Opening Session will be 9:30 – 12:00 Noon with the Presentation of Bishop James E. Walker, Presiding Prelate by Presiding Elder Napoleon Goshay, Roll Call of Ministers and Roll Call of Lay Delegates. The Minister’s Spouses, Widows and Widowers Hour of Worship will be 12 Noon -1:00 p.m. with the featured Speaker, Rev. Marilyn Batchelor, Associate Pastor at Lewis Metropolitan C.M.E. Church of Los Angeles. Lunch will be served from 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. Then at 2:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. – A Presentation: The Essential Church-“Breaking Strongholds: Fast, Pray, Give” – Rev. Julio A. Andujo, Presenter. The Business Session will be held 3:00 – 5:30 p.m. Dinner will be served 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. The Evening Service of Worship will begin at 7:00 p.m. featuring the $100 Lena Jones Rice Missionary March. Mrs. Alfreda Davis, Conference Missionary President and Ms. Wanda Thomas, Conference Missionary Vice President will serve as the Worship Leaders. The Missionary Evening Preacher will be Rev. Dr. John Deron Johnson, Pastor of Phillips Temple C.M.E. Church, Los Angeles, CA. The Annual Conference Missionary Choir will be featured and the Ushers will be The Annual Conference Ushers.
Tuesday, August 24th is “Laity and Ministry to Men’s Day.” Registration will begin at 8:00 a.m. and the fee is $50.00. The Morning Meditation will be 9:00 – 9:30 a.m. featuring Rev. James C. Raymond, Jr., Pastor of Curry Temple C.M.E. Church, Compton, CA, as the Speaker. The Business Session will begin at 9:30 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. 11:45 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. will be The Memorial Service of Worship featuring Rev. U. L. Butts, Pastor of Phillips Chapel in Santa Monica, CA as the Speaker. Lunch will be served 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. Then at 2:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. – A Presentation: The Essential Church, “Breaking Strongholds: Fast, Pray, Give”- Rev. Julio A. Andujo, Presenter. The Business Session will be held at 3:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. Dinner will be served 5:30 pm. – 7:00 p.m. The Evening Service of Worship-“Laity and Ministry to Men” will begin at 7:00 p.m. with Mr. Donald Bruce Levingston, Conference Lay Leader and Mr. Travis Hicks, Conference Coordinator-Ministry to Men will serve as the Worship Leaders. The Laity and Minister to Men Evening Preacher will be Bishop Henry M. Williamson, Sr., Presiding Prelate of The Eighth Episcopal District. The Southern California Men’s Choir and The Hays Tabernacle Men’s Choir will render songs of praise and The Annual Conference Ushers will be on duty.
Wednesday, August 25th will be the Closing Session. Registration will begin at 8:00 a.m. and the fee is $50.00. The Ordination Service of Worship will begin at 9:00 – 10:15 a.m. with Rev. Joseph C. Gardner, Sr. as the Worship Leader. The Ordination Service Preacher will be Bishop Thomas L. Hoyt, Jr., Presiding Prelate of The Seventh Episcopal District and The Senior Bishop of the CME Church. The Business Session will be 10:15 a.m. – 11:15 a.m. The Commissioning and Closing Service of Worship will be 11:15 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. with Bishop James B. Walker, as the Commissioning Service Preacher, Newly Appointed Presiding Prelate of the Ninth Episcopal District.
