Catherine Davis of Los Angeles celebrated her 100th birthday on January 11. Born in Daingerfield, TX, Ms. Davis became a resident of the City of Angels in July 1956. She worked until she was 91 years of age for the Schoenfeld family of Beverly Hills.
Festivities began with a reception at Ms. Davis’ home. Relatives came from Texas and New Mexico as well as various places in Southern California. Also, Councilman Curren D. Price sent a certificate on behalf of the city of Los Angeles.
The main event was a dinner honoring Ms. Davis in Saturday, January 14th held at Open Door Church of God in Christ in Monrovia. Ms. Davis is a longtime member of the church and has known Pastor Roosevelt Tuggle, Jr., since he was nine-years-old.
The emcee for the evening was Ms. Davis’ niece, Sue Roseberry, who was a finalist on Season 4 of BET’s “Sunday Best” as well as an All-Star contestant. Her goddaughter, Denesica, coordinated the decorations and prepared the meal for the gathering.
Ms. Davis, who said the key to long life is serving the Lord, thrilled attendees with her recitation of Matthew 5 – The Beatitudes.
