A home girl Carmen De Lavallade came back home to Jefferson High our alma mater to salute some of the present day students. What a joy it was for the current day Jeffersonians, Carmen and Alvin Ailey got their start at Jeff back in the 80s. Today Carmen is 85 and is married to internationally famous actor and dancer Geoffrey Holder. Thanks Carmen! You were always doing something nice for somebody else. Hallelujah!
A good friend the owner of E.J. Jackson’s Limousine Services died Tuesday of a heart attack. He was 66. Jackson, a former all-city linebacker at Manual Arts High and played football at Cal-State Long Beach State. E.J, gave needy families turkeys and baskets during the holidays. I wasn’t a buddy, buddy, with E.J. Jackson, To my surprise he sent a driver and one of his limousines to pick me and my family up and take us to my retirement dinner after 24-years of service as Assistant Chief Deputy for the late L.A. County Supervisor Kenny Hahn. Belated thanks E.J. Jackson, you really made me and my family feel like somebody special. . Final add; To borrow the words of First Lady Michelle Obama: When some businessmen like Donald Trump goes low Mr. Jackson went high. Thanks again, E.J!

The Washington Huskies earned their first loss of the season to the USC Trojans in a 26-13 contest. The winner of Saturday’s Seattle clash between the Huskies coached by Chris Peterson and quarterbacked by Jake Browning and the Trojans (5-2, 6-3) should earn Pac-12 title and be Rose Bowl bound. The Trojans rolled over Oregon 45-20. SC’s Ronald Jones II finished with 171 yards on 20 carries on the day. WR Adoree’ Jackson et al tuned up for the Huskies with some record tying marks. Jones II scored four TDs in the game to tie a mark set by Mike Garrett, O.J. Simpson, Charles White, Marcus Allen and Reggie Bush. Chris Petersen is in his first year with the Washington Huskies with QB Jake Browning, a man of color leading his No.4 nationally rated team. Peterson was formerly a coach at Boise State.
One of the most famous brothers duo to play at UCLA was the Johnson brothers, Rafer Johnson, the Olympian and Jimmie Johnson who won all-pro honors as cornerback for the San Francisco ‘49ers. Jimmie was an all-Amercian cornerback at Bruinville. There will be a trio of Ball Brothers, who should be NBA all-stars after all-American careers at UCLA, Only Lonzo is at UC LA at thee moment, Two more, LaMelo and LiAngelo, are on their way from Chino Hills to UCLA.
There isn’t a messy situation between OKC’s Russell Westbrook and his former teammate Kevin Durant. They are still friends and pros and happy with their lives. In their first meeting since Kevin Durant opted out of his contract with the OKC Thunder for a career with the Golden State Warriors, Durant and the Warriors prevailed 122-96. Durant out shot his old teammate Russell Westbrook 39 to 20. This was the Thunder’s first defeat of the season.
“The city of Cleveland right now is on fire,” according to Coach Tyronn Lue. The Cavs’ only thing on their minds is winning a second consecutive championship.
How about those current L.A. Lakers? The Lakers shocked the GSWs 117-97 in the Lakers most surprising win since last year’s all time worst record (in franchise history.)
The Chicago Cubs opened 2016 World Series action as the favorites to win the hold classic. With a grand slam start, and a homerun, Chicago finished with a ninth inning, 9-3 victory. The Cubbies were destined to become champions for the first time since 1908. The great Ernie Banks, Gene et al didn’t get a foot in a World Series game as Cubbies. All they could do was dream about how it might have felt. And the beat continues! The Cavs had had hoped to have rooted the Indians to another World Series title since 1984. But Chicago Cubs prevented it from happening that way. The Cubs blew the Indians away 8-7 in 10 innings.
The Cubs had a slew of heroes including Ben Zorbists (MVP), the Cubs completed a 3-1 comeback and singles by Kyle Schwarber, Anthony Rizzo, Krist Bryant, Addison Russell (3rd homer of the WS) , Aroldis Chapman (star closer), et al.
