Barry Simmons, senior vice president and west region executive for Bank of America, will serve as the west coast chair of the annual March of Dimes March for Babies walks in April and May of this year. Nearly 100,000 walkers, volunteers, and donors will join the fight against birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality by participating in one of 19 walks being held throughout California.
The March of Dimes’ mission to improve the health of babies aligns with Bank of America’s long-standing goal to improve the health and vitality of communities across the U.S., according to B of A officials.
“Bank of America is committed to being a strong partner and making a positive contribution to our local neighborhoods,” they said.
“Bank of America is excited to support March of Dimes by joining the thousands of caring and giving members of March for Babies teams in the local communities where our employees and customers live and work,” Simmons said. “March of Dimes is tirelessly committed to the critical needs and well-being of moms and babies through its advocacy, research, education, and community support programs. Join me, my Bank of America colleagues, and my fellow March for Babies Chairs from across California in making this the most successful March for Babies campaign ever.”
“We’re thrilled to have Barry Simmons and Bank of America on board to support us here in California,” said Karyn DeMartini, state director of the California Chapter of March of Dimes. “His passion for the cause and commitment to helping our babies will be a huge driving factor in the success of our 19 events this year. We are grateful for the time and support Mr. Simmons has been able to lend us.”
Nearly 50,000 babies are born prematurely every year in California. 15,000 California babies are born with a birth defect. 2,500 babies do not live to see their first birthday.
It’s not too late to register to walk, according to March of Dimes officials. Those unable to attend can donate from anywhere in the world. Visit www.marchforbabies.org for more information.
