New Food 4 Less will create approximately 75 new jobs and features a one-stop shopping convenience with new Fuel Center and expanded departments including a fresh bakery, deli, and fresh produce, meat and seafood
Continuing its extensive and ongoing reinvestment in its supermarkets, Food 4 Less will unveil its newest store in Los Angeles’ Athens community on Wednesday, January 8 following a brief ribbon-cutting ceremony at 8 a.m. The new store at 11507 S. Western Avenue is conveniently located in the Athens Westmont Shopping Center. The store will be open daily from 6 a.m. to midnight. The new store will provide Athens residents with one-stop shopping convenience, quality products and services at Food 4 Less’ everyday low prices. The store is relocating from its previous location at 11407 S. Western Avenue.
“I’m excited to greet customers and show them around our new Athens Westmont Center store,” said Store Manager Kimberly Johnson. “Our goal is to be the best supermarket in the area by offering our customers great service, selection and quality foods at exceptional value.”
The new 80,515 square foot store replaces a smaller Food 4 Less at 11407 S. Western Avenue, which will close its doors on Tuesday, January 7 at 10 p.m. That store, also located in the Athens Westmont Shopping Center, served the community for 19 years.
An $11 million investment in Athens
The opening of the new Athens Food 4 Less culminates more than seven months of construction following the acquisition of the building, which previously housed a Kmart. Food 4 Less has invested more than $11 million in upgrades and enhancements to the building.
Based on shopper requests and input, the new Athens Food 4 Less will offer an expanded selection of products and services, including an abundance of fresh produce; a fully staffed meat department featuring high quality meats; a fresh seafood department; a bakery featuring fresh breads, rolls and desserts; and a service delicatessen with items for shoppers on the go.
The new store will also feature Food 4 Less’ largest Fuel Center. Also located in the Athens Westmont Shopping Center, the new Food 4 Less Fuel Center features nine gas pumping stations offering 18 fueling positions. Customers filling up at the new Food 4 Less Fuel Center may also purchase items such as ice, soft drinks, tobacco products, candy, chewing gum and automotive products. In keeping with Food 4 Less’ commitment to quality at “every day” low prices, the new Fuel Center will sell only high quality gasoline at prices below most competitors.
Bringing Jobs to the Community
The new Athens Food 4 Less employs approximately 110 full- and part-time associates, including approximately 75 new positions created by the relocation. Store Manager Johnson began her career in 1990 as a part-time Customer 1st Clerk.
“We welcome the community to come out see our new Athens supermarket and all it has to offer,” said Johnson. “We think customers will be pleased with the variety of fresh products we have to offer, as well as our great prices. We look forward to the community joining us at our grand-opening celebration on Wednesday, January 8.”
Grand Opening Events
The new Athens Food 4 Less will host a grand opening celebration at 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 8. Food 4 Less officials, store associates and local dignitaries will participate in a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Other special events include samplings through the weekend.
Community Organizations Benefit from Grand Opening Grants
The store’s grand opening celebration will include the presentation of $5,000 in grants from Food 4 Less to Washington High School and Clay Middle School.
