West Angeles Community Development Corporation has hired a new executive director, Grant D. Power, who has more than 25 years’ experience in faith-based community development.

Power has worked internationally and in the United States leading organizations in providing micro and small business lending, business development counseling, along with housing and commercial mixed-use development. Previously, he worked with West Angeles CDC as a consultant providing counsel on strategic planning, economic development and project design, monitoring and evaluation.

“Grant has a history with West Angeles CDC, he was a part of the team as we founded the organization in 1994 and has contributed to its ongoing success over the years as a consultant. His experience and leadership on the next era of expansion will be a tremendous asset,” said Bishop Charles E. Blake, pastor of the West Angeles Church of God in Christ.

West Angeles CDC, founded by Bishop Blake and Dr. Lula Ballton, provides social services for individuals and families, new home purchases or loan modifications increasing homeownership, along with free tax preparation and other financial counseling services.

In 2013, West Angeles CDC began accelerating its efforts around economic and commercial real estate development to ensure equitable opportunities associated with Los Angeles County Metro’s Crenshaw/LAX and Expo light rail lines.

Current projects for West Angeles CDC include expansion of small business services and homeownership counseling and a growing real estate portfolio with commercial, mixed use, and affordable housing projects planned for the Crenshaw Corridor and beyond.

“It’s an exciting time for the community. As a faith-based development corporation our mission is to ensure investment expands social and economic opportunities for current residents – with considerations for anti-displacement, environmental enhancements, and cultural identity,” said Power, who holds a M.S. in Global Development Studies and a B.A. in English and International Relations.
