The 43rd Annual Los Angeles Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast will feature keynote speaker, the Right Rev. Charles E. Blake, Sr., the presiding bishop, of the Church of God in Christ, Inc., (COGIC), the world’s largest African-American denomination, boasting a membership in excess of seven million.
The prayer breakfast is on Saturday, February 13, at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel in Los Angeles, California.
Bishop Blake is the pastor of West Angeles Church of God in Christ, a mega-church with a membership of over 25,000. He is recognized as one of the great preachers of this generation and one of the most influential figures in Los Angeles.
President Barack Obama sought Bishop Blake to serve on his 25-person White House Advisory Council on Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships. He was also chosen as one of four individuals to address the Democratic National Convention’s first Ecumenical Service.
“It is an honor to speak at this year’s prayer breakfast. As Los Angeles, our nation and the world grapple with violence, economic turmoil, and political and social instability, it is important that prayer is practiced as an integral and necessary component towards positive change,” said Bishop Blake.
The breakfast started in 1973, when Mayor Tom Bradley asked area pastors to meet with him in prayer for the city. Civic and religious leaders have gathered annually to celebrate God’s blessing and seek His guidance.
