Crenshaw Christian Center (CCC) evolved from a vision of faith and a desire to serve people. Founded four decades ago by Apostle Frederick K.C. Price, CCC is now a vibrant institution in Los Angeles and known throughout the world.
To celebrate its 40th anniversary, CCC plans a Reunion Carnival on Saturday, September 14, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., on the campus located at 7901 South Vermont Avenue in Los Angeles. The free event, themed, ‘Where Memories Meet Our Present,’ is similar to family reunion, according to Chairperson Cheryl Price, the daughter of Apostle Price and Dr. Betty Price and sister of CCC Pastor Fred Price.
“The CCC Reunion Carnival welcomes friends and former church members to attend our joyous celebration. It would be really nice to see some of our old friends and people we grew up with.
The fun-filled day will include a cook-off/ bake-off contest, a Domino tournament, a 3 on 3 basketball tournament, carnival activities, food vendors and more,” she said.
Apostle Price added, “I just want to say ‘thank you’ to past and present members for helping us made it happen.”
The festive occasion is all the more memorable considering how far CCC has come since its beginnings in 1973 when Apostle Price organized the ministry with 300 members.
“Actually, his journey to establishing CCC can more easily be traced back eight years earlier, when my father was pastor of a small church in Los Angeles called West Washington Community Church under the auspices of the Christian and Missionary Alliance,” noted Cheryl.
“He was dissatisfied with the lack of positive results in his life and ministry. So, he left that ministry and shifted into a new doctrinal direction to focus on faith. The results were nothing less than astonishing over the succeeding decades.”
The first services of CCC were held on November 23, 1973 in its former edifice at 9550 Crenshaw Boulevard in Inglewood. Over the next decades, the congregation continued to grow, both spiritually and numerically.
Apostle Price reached even more people via radio broadcast. Then, in April 1978, his message touched scores of thousands as he began televising the ‘Ever Increasing Faith’ program in the L.A. metropolitan area. Today, people around the world watch and witness his Christ-affirming messages.
“While worshipping in Inglewood, we averaged about 5,500 people participating in three services each Sunday. Before long, it became clear that it was time for a new church home,” recalled Cheryl.
“CCC purchased the former Pepperdine University campus to accommodate its members in 1981. The sanctuary was completed in 1989 and would become the world renowned Faith Dome.”
During his ministry, Apostle Price has continued to move by faith and act to serve others. As a result, he has accomplished many notable achievements such as the establishment of Crenshaw Christian Center East in Manhattan, New York in May 2001.
Other accomplishments include founding a church in Africa, launching a K – 12 Christian school for children, and implementing the Apostle Frederick Price Ministry Training Institute.
In recognition of his successful development of multiple international ministries, he was installed as an Apostle in 2008.
As CCC prepares for its next decades of serving God’s people, Apostle Price will no doubt seek more opportunities to serve God and His people. And his son, Pastor Frederick Kenneth Price, continues the family legacy of service in his position as the pastor of CCC.
