These holiday events transform local parks into free winter wonderlands for the community
Council District 10 is in the holiday spirit and Councilwoman Heather Hutt is the conductor of the holiday train.
On December 8, she turned the Vineyard Recreation Center into a snowy day for the community. Families came out to the park to enjoy real snow with their toddlers and children. Hutt spoke to the Sentinel as she watched kids snowboard down an icy snow hill and make snowballs.
“It’s so important to bring fun into the community,” said Hutt. “I think it’s just adorable.”
She continued, “I’m from Los Angeles, so I’ve never saw snow. So, why not bring it into the neighborhood where kids can just walk to have fun?”

Hutt is inviting Angelenos everywhere to embrace the holiday spirit and experience the magic of a snowy winter wonderland right in sunny Los Angeles.
“This will be here all afternoon so the bigger kids that get out of school will be able to come and enjoy themselves,” said Hutt. “We have the little [ones] that are here having a good time and that’s what this season is about.
“Winter’s coming, it’s the holidays, why not have a good time together?”
This event is part of a series of Snow Day events taking place in the 10th District. Throughout the month of December, each event will have its own unique features and surprises. These events will transform a series of parks into a snow-filled playground, providing the rare opportunity for local families to enjoy a winter wonderland experience right in the 10th District.
Hutt held a Snow Night later that evening at Queen Anne Recreation Center and a Snowy Day at Alta Loma Elementary School on Saturday, Dec. 9. On Dec. 10, she held a Winter Wonderland event at Reynier Park. On Tuesday, Dec. 12, Hutt held a Festival of Lights at Genesee Ave. Park.
On Friday, Dec. 15, Hutt will hold a Snow Night in Leimert Park at 6pm. On Saturday, Dec. 16, she will bring a Winter Carnival to Koreatown at Seoul International Park, from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. On Friday, Dec. 22, Hutt will present another Snow Night at Benny Potter Park from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Before Christmas, she will bring another Snowy Day at Jim Gilliam Park, from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.. All events are free for the public to attend.
When asked what the holidays mean to Hutt, she replied, “Community, family, peace and everybody collectively wanting to do better for their fellow man.”
