Tiffany Haddish’s She Ready Comedy Lounge and Beer Garden provided laughter and great times during the 18th Annual Taste of Soul. This is the first time the Taste of Soul hosted a Comedy Lounge since 2006 with J. Anthony Brown.
The noon show included the comedy stylings of Yvette “The Funny Lady” Obiefule, Lewis Dix Jr., Chico Will, Ramona Stephens, and Joe Fox.
This year’s comedy lounge came with important causes. Proceeds from the tickets sold for the event when to Haddish’s She Ready Foundation (SRF) and Mothers In Action.
“That is the most amazing gift that I think God could ever give somebody is the gift of laughter because a lot of people don’t know how to live and so many people are bound inside,” Obiefule said. “He also said in His word that laughter, it’s healing. It’s healing for the mind, the body and the soul.”

Mothers in Action will use the funds for their 28th Annual Senior Feed on Thanksgiving Day. Their goal is to deliver over 1000 meals to seniors. Dix Jr. noted how laughter is a necessity considering the issues going on throughout the world.
“Anytime that we’re able to entertain such a well-mixed group of people, it’s always fun,” Dix Jr said. “When you’re doing it for a good reason like She’s Ready Foundation with Tiffany Haddish, makes it even fun.”
Stephens, a native of Georgia, takes an enormous level of pride in the Leimert Park district and the impact of the Taste of Soul.
“Comedy and the ability to make people laugh comes natural to me,” Stephens said. “It’s good to do the clubs and get booked but when you are in a family-friendly environment that’s a festival, it’s beautiful.”
Fox believes that the Taste of Soul is a place where Black people can be their authentic selves while enjoying the music, food, and culture that they hold dear. He also appreciates the generosity of Haddish, saying she has a “genuine heart.”
“Tiffany Haddish has carved a path to success in her own way and she’s a great person,” Fox said. “[Haddish] is a giver and for her to give her time, to give her image, her celebrity, that’s commendable.”
