Concerned Black Men of Los Angeles will mark their 20th anniversary with an awards gala, their first in-person celebration since the coronavirus pandemic derailed previous commemorations by the youth mentoring organization.
The black-tie affair, which is open to the public, takes place on Saturday August 12, at 6 p.m., at The Proud Bird, 11022 Aviation Blvd., in Los Angeles. The theme is “Uplifting our Youth for a Brighter Tomorrow.”
According to Mark Anderson, CBMLA president, the keynote speakers are L.A. County Superior Court Judge Rupert A. Byrdsong and actor Milan Carter, who stars in the Netflix series “Fubar.” Also, Steve Carlston, general manager of Fox 11 LA KTTV, will participate. Byrdsong and Carlston are longtime supporters of CBMLA.

“The Awards Gala will be a nice evening consisting of inspiring words from our keynote speakers and recognition of numerous well deserving young men and women involved in our youth development programs,” explained Anderson.
“In addition, our mentors and volunteers will be recognized for their outstanding efforts in working with our young men and women, CBMLA Scholarships will be awarded, and our sponsors will be recognized for their continuous support.”
