It is with a heavy heart that the family announces the sudden transition of Ruth Jean Davis on October 17, 2021. Ruth was a devoted daughter, mother, grandmother, godmother, friend, and colleague. She leaves many to mourn her loss. Ruth was a committed and faithful civic servant.
Ruth was born in McAlmont, Arkansas to the late Mary Frances Woods and Walter Scott on March 6, 1944. At an early age, she became a resident of Los Angeles where she lived until her transition.
While Ruth’s education included schooling in Los Angeles, some of her major achievements included graduating from The Masters College and The Los Angeles Bible Training School. Her most precious and prized achievement was the creation of her own company, Rushare Productions, a Christian performing arts organization serving veterans and missions all over the world where she served as Founder/Director.
Ruth Davis served as Director of Human Services at the Los Angeles Urban League for 46 years. As a member of the Executive Team, she honed her skills as a dedicated, knowledgeable and effective organizer and supervisor. Her skills were invaluable to the organization.
In addition to Ruth Davis being an accomplished producer, songwriter, singer and actress, she was a member of SAG-AFTRA and was a lead singer with H.B. Barnum’s LIFE Choir for 40 years.
Ruth has been a dedicated and faithful member of Baldwin Hills Baptist Church where she was also the Choir Director.
Ruth is survived by her children Sharolyn Davis (Michael King) and Eric Davis, and her grandchildren, Ava Davis-King and Asha Davis-King.
Homegoing services are scheduled for Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at Fairview Baptist Church in Inglewood.
