The Greens are a group you would do well to avoid because they cause too much trouble. They don’t bring anything positive to the table — just mess.
If you’re coveting someone’s blessings, then Envy is sitting at your table, too — wanting your lunch instead their own. Envy is described as a feeling of discontented or resentful longing aroused by someone else’s possessions, qualities, or luck.
“A tranquil heart gives life to the flesh, but envy makes the bones rot.”- Proverbs 14:30
How many people do you know that live in a funk, obsessing over what somebody in their circle has or owns? Envy has driven many to pursue careers, goals and others things in life, all the while, robbing them of enjoying those accomplishments. Envy is a shadow on the heart and blinds to the truth in life.
“Then I saw that all toil and all skill in work come from a man’s envy of his neighbor. This also is vanity and a striving after wind.”- Ecclesiastes 4:4
Envy will rob you of your joy because your reasons for pursuing most things is due to what someone else possesses. It has destructive capabilities and is listed among several sins that we do well to rid ourselves of. People who harbor envy in their heart are dangerous people who might do anything to gain what someone else has or destroy it.
“Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.”- Galatians 5:19-21
Envy will keep you out of heaven! I can understand why because it flies right in the face of how the Lord has called us to be to one another. God doesn’t want us wasting time focused on what others have, but on what He has given us. God has blessed us with much and envy blinds us from seeing those blessings.
“Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins.”-1 Peter 4:8
We come back to love every time, well of course because God is love after all. Much like it’s siblings, Envy is a joy stealer and peace killer. Some research even shows that it’s bad for your health, possibly causing ulcers, headaches and other health disparities. We have to keep the magnifying glass on Jesus — keep Him bigger than our sins because He is.
But still though, out of all the Green siblings, Jealousy is a demon from hell…
