A free financial education workshop for older adults living in the South Los Angeles area will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., on Thursday, Sept. 21, and hosted by the Watts Labor Community Action Committee (WLCAC), National Council on Aging (NCOA) and Bank of America.
The workshop will take place at WLCAC’s Bradley Multipurpose Senior Center, located 10957 South Central Ave., Los Angeles, 90059. WLCAC is a Benefit Enrollment Center that assists older adults with enrolling in Federal, State, and local benefits that they may be eligible to receive.

The workshop will cover budgeting basics developed by NCOA with support from Bank of America, which will be facilitated by the WLCAC Bradley team. Participants will review tips and best practices on budgeting their money while living on a fixed income, stretching a budget, and how to avoid scams as part of NCOA’s Savvy Saving Seniors® curriculum. One-on-one reviews will then be offered by local BofA bankers.
“The workshop creates an opportunity for older adults to increase their income while decreasing living expenses through benefits enrollment,” said Genevieve Waterman, director of the Center for Economic & Financial Security at the National Council on Aging.
The WLCAC Benefit Enrollment Center is funded with support from NCOA and the Administration for Community Living, part of the U.S. Department for Health and Human Services. Supporting this program is the City of Los Angeles, Department of Aging. NCOA also offers a free online budget planner and other tips for seniors on its website at www.ncoa.org/age-well-planner.
“We’re proud to have partnered with the NCOA for more than a decade providing free financial education that is relevant for older adults and help them feel confident in their financial lives. It’s exciting to be able to offer this workshop in South Los Angeles with the WLCAC,” said Aja Baker, Bank of America Los Angeles. Bank of America provides more than a thousand free financial education workshops across greater Los Angeles every year on a variety of topics for people at every stage of their financial lives.
