Not long ago, actor and comedian Martin Lawrence performed at the Yaamava’ Resort and Casino at San Manuel. The cozy 2,500-seat venue was packed with Lawrence’s fans. They were all very eager to see his stand-up show, “Y’all Know What It Is.”

“Playing Casinos are always a good time. It was my first time at Yaamava’, and they rolled out the red carpet,” said Lawrence. “Having a casino environment here in California is cool because you get a big diverse audience at the show, and they brought the energy.”

Yaamava’ offers first rate casino gaming, lavish resort spaces, award-winning dining, a world-class spa, and live performances from legendary artists like Lawrence.

While waiting for the show to begin, many fans gossiped amongst themselves about Lawrence’s health and mental well-being because of several unverified online rumors. “Do you think he’s okay,” peddled one audience member. “I heard he might have had a stroke,” whispered another.

A few months back, Lawrence addressed the health rumors on Hot 97’s “Ebro in the Morning,” where he said, “I’m fine. I’m in God’s hands. You know, I’m glad to be waking up every day. I’m all good. There is no need for people to be concerned.”

When Lawrence finally made his way onto the Yaamava’ Theater Stage, almost without delay he delivered a joke about the stroke rumors.

In true Lawrence style, he remarked on the chatter about his supposed stroke, followed by him spritely side-leaping across the stage, and then he said, “Does that look like I had a stroke?” From there, he uproariously enthralled the audience.

Although Lawrence’s speech sometimes seemed a bit impaired, his comedic timing was masterful. He even took out time from his set to chastise an audience member for recording the show, which was strongly prohibited by Lawrence and the Yaamava’ venue.

“I see you,” said Lawrence. “I can see the light on the top of your phone recording.”

Lawrence is widely known for his work on television and film in projects like his self-titled Fox TV sitcom “Martin,” and the “Bad Boys” franchise, which includes its latest box-office smashing installment “Bad Boys: Ride or Die.”

Lawrence’s filmography also includes “A Thin Line Between Love and Hate,” “Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins,” “Life,” “Big Momma’s House,” and many more films.

Lawrence said with all his success in film and television, standup always brings him back to the stage because of the instant gratification he gets from comedy, which he referred to as “his first love.”

“When you are on stage in the moment and the crowd reacts to you in real time, there is no better feeling,” said Lawrence. He said it makes him feel alive and that he always wants to give the audience more.

“There are so many struggles’ people face, and the world is in turmoil with so much division but there is unity in laughter,” said Lawrence. “So, if I can bring people together for one hour through laughter it’s a great feeling.”

From the long-standing ovation at the end of Lawrence’s set, his performance at the Yaamava’ Resort and Casino appeared to be everything the comedian could have hoped.

The Yaamava’ Resort and Casino is a top entertainment destination in Southern California, serving fourteen-million patrons annually, which is second only to Disneyland.

“The venue was beautiful, and I look forward to returning,” said Lawrence.
