A gala celebration is planned for Mother Joan Walker as she marks her 24th year as the Supervisor of Women of California for the Southwest Jurisdiction of the Church of God in Christ, Inc.

The event is set for Saturday, August 27, at 10:30 a.m., at the Doubletree Hotel, 21333 Hawthorne Blvd., in Torrance.

Walker, who currently serves with Bishop Hillrie Murphy, Jurisdictional Prelate, also worked for many years with the late Bishop Bennie Roberts Benbow. According to a spokesperson, the tribute will honor her dedication to Christ, contributions to the church and her life as a mother, foster parent, nurse and entrepreneur.

Mother Walker’s son, celebrated actor William Allen Young, will narrate a documentary of her life at the celebration.

For information and tickets, call Evangelist Shirley Boyd at (323) 291-4211 or (323) 574-5004.
