Zoe Christian Fellowship of Los Angeles will host “Buttons – Root of the Soul” starring Toni Malone on September 28, at 3 p.m., in their edifice located at 2521 S. West View St., in Los Angeles. Bishop Frank L. Stewart is the senior pastor.
Directed by Jeff Anderson Gunter, “Buttons – Root of the Soul” is an audience-interactive, one-woman musical production written by Malone, a multi-talented singer, actress and playwright. A captivating portrayal of real life events, the production tells the courageous story of Susanna Callaway, also known as Button, who navigates her journey of life facing many adversities along the way.
Malone describes the play as an “educational, moving, spiritual journey that touches everybody’s soul that allows you to reach to the root of your soul.” Set in early 1900 South Carolina, the story depicts Button’s life, which is fraught with personal, heart-breaking tragedies that challenge her faith. With the help of some very special people, Button triumphs over the obstacles in her life.
Gifted with powerful vocals and stage persona, Malone has performed in many Broadway productions including “Fame,” “Dreamgirls,” “Smokey Joe’s Café,” and “menopause the Musical.” In addition, she has written, produced and starred in “Voices of the Past,” “It’s All About Love” and “it’s All About Love – The Sequel.”
