May 25, 1878 – Tap dancer Luther Robinson, best known as Bill “Bojangles” Robinson was born in Richmond, Virginia.
May 26, 1949 – Blaxploitation film star, Pamela Suzette “Pam” Grier was born in Winston-Salem, N.C.
May 27, 1958 – Ernest Green was the first African-American to graduate from Little Rock’s Central High School with six hundred white classmates. (file photo)

May 31, 1881 – Booker T. Washington was recommended by General Armstrong for the principalship of the newly planned Tuskegee Institute.
