Maestro Anthony R. Parnther
The Southeast Association, Inc. (SESA) will open the 64th symphonic season, featuring the Southeast Symphony Orchestra. The concert is scheduled for Sunday, October 2, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of Trinity Baptist Church, 2040 W. Jefferson Blvd., Los Angeles. The Rev. Alvin Tunstill is pastor.
SESA is proud to announce Maestro Anthony R. Parnther as guest conductor for this initial concert. A multifaceted musician, Parnther has been a member of the Southeast Symphony Orchestra since 2009.
Currently, he is Music Director and Conductor of the Orange County Symphony in Anaheim, Artistic Director of the Anaheim Music Festival, and founding Artistic Director of the Wind Symphony Conducting Institute.
SESA is honored to present Parnther, an outstanding musician, to our SESA audience.
The theme for the 64th season is “New Horizons” and will feature the West Coast Premieres of two major works by African American composers: “Portraits of a Theme” (2010) by John Wineglass, and “Out of Kilter” by Dr. Marian Harrison. These new musical compositions are sure to leave a lasting impression. The featured artist will be youthful Andrew Brady, bassoonist performing the Mozart Bassoon Concerto. The concert will also include the music of Stravinsky, Tchaikovsky and Shostakovich.
The Southeast Symphony Association, Inc. has been an integral part of the community and in continuous existence since 1948, when it was founded by Mabel-Massengill-Gunn.
SESA continues its tradition of providing classical music concerts, featuring various guest artist, free of charge to the community.
In 1995 the Association, in connection with the Los Angeles Unified School District established the SESA Music Conservatory which provides a program of Saturday morning instruction in instrumental music for second through twelfth grade students at the Los Angeles Center for Enriched Studies. Co-founders, Frank Harris and Rosemarie Cook-Glover have served as Executive Director and Director/Registrar respectively since the Conservatory’s inception.
SESA president Sheryl Harris and the Board of Directors cordially invite the citizens of the greater Los Angeles community to attend the free opening concert.
