When it comes to food, Taste of Soul (TOS) has it all including international goodies. TOS has grown to be a family festival attended by over 350,000 people from SoCal and beyond in recent years and is still growing. People come from all over for great food, music, entertainment and fellowship on Crenshaw Blvd. You can find food vendors that range from African cuisine to Mexican cuisine.
Husband and wife TOS vendors, Miguel Gayle and Alafia Myton are bringing Island To Table Patty Hut to the festival, which will offer Jamaican cuisine.
Originally from Jamaica, they now live in Orange County, CA with their four children. Island To Table Patty Hut is a family business as their kids work there too.
“My husband and I decided to start Island To Table Patty Hut four years ago,” said Myton. “We first started off with Island To Table Catering which offered authentic Jamaican cuisine, but was only doing catering.”
She continued, “We wanted to do something more consistent so we could get the kids involved, that’s when we decided to change the name to Island To Table Patty Hut and specialize in Jamaican Patties and Jamaican Empanadas of all sorts.”
Some of the kinds of patties you can find at the Island To Table Patty Hut is curry & jerk chicken, spicy beef, beefy cheese, veggies, spinach and more. Myton shared that there was a signature pattie that was favored the most amongst the others.
“I would have to say our most popular patty is the spicy beef,” said Myton.
Vendors surrounding the Crenshaw community have been taken with the idea from the beginning of TOS and they came out in droves, with steaming pots of gumbo, grills, bbq and more, from fryers filled with fish, chicken and shrimp and desserts from funnel cakes to cobblers. Island To Table Patty Hut is looking to bring that Caribbean flair to TOS with their cuisine.
Island To Table Patty Hut will be taking part in their first TOS on October 20. Make sure you drop by their booth to partake in some tasty bites.
Myton says she is “looking forward to do Taste of Soul in Los Angeles,” and I’m sure everyone is looking forward to tasting what they have to offer.
