In a day and age in which up-and-coming filmmakers aspire to be the next Spike Lee, John Singleton, or Ryan Coogler, many are unaware that their forefather was Jamaa Fanaka. Once heralded as “The most famous unknown filmmaker in America” by Turner Movie Classics, Fanaka was a preeminent auteur (writer, director, producer) in the 1970s and ‘80s.

Brookins-Kirkland AME Shows Appreciation to Pastor Minor

Brookins–Kirkland Community AME Church saluted the spiritual and executive leadership of Pastor Mary S. Minor during an appreciation service on October 15. The theme was “Our Pastor Shows Love Still Works” based on I Corinthians 13:1-13. The Steward and Trustee Boards sponsored the program. Pastor Darryl Walker and the members of New Philadelphia Church were the special guests. The pastor’s family also attended the service. In addition, Minor took time to recognize Trustee Willie Mayes (right) on his recent appointment as an air traffic controller for the Federal Aviation Administration.
