Heather Hutt was born and raised in Los Angeles and has dedicated her life to Democratic activism, public service, and the community. Heather recently served as the first Black U.S. Senate State Director in California’s history, and in her capacity serving Senator Harris, was the principal representative among constituents and elected leaders throughout California. She used her position to stand up for women by bringing together healthcare professionals to discuss implicit bias in health care, especially for women and women of color as well as advocating for DACA recipients and fighting against the Trump Administration’s assault on Dreamers and immigrants.

Assemblymember Sydney Kamlager-Dove’s Bill to Protect Children with Autism Moves Ahead in the State Legislature with Bipartisan Support

Assemblymember Sydney Kamlager-Dove’s (D-Los Angeles) bill, AB 189 (Kamlager-Dove) that would designate autism professionals as mandated reporters passed the Assembly Public Safety Committee  with unanimous support. The bill now heads to the Appropriations Committee. AB 189 clarifies that all Qualified Autism Service Practitioners (QASPs) are considered mandated reporters under the Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA). Mandated reporters are people who are required by law to report known or suspected child maltreatment.

Man Sentenced for Killing UCLA Student

A Fresno man was sentenced today to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the 2015 murder of a 21-year-old UCLA student whose body was found after a fire at her Westwood apartment, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Man Convicted of Killing UCLA Student

Medina also was convicted of one count of arson of an inhabited structure, two counts of first-degree burglary and one count of animal cruelty. Sentencing is set for July 20 when Medina faces life in state prison without the possibility of parole.
