With six seconds left in regulation, the Hamilton Yankees girls’ basketball team was tied at 44 with the Santa Margarita Eagles in the second round of the CIF Division II State playoffs.
The Jordan Bulldogs rallied in the final minutes to etch their names in history during the Division III CIF City Section championships. They defeated the Washington Prep Generals 42-30. The title win is the first for the Bulldogs since 1980.
Current George Washington Preparatory High School students, staff and faculty now walk into campus each day to see vibrant murals and they can thank the Los Angeles Rams rookies for it. During the summer, the Rams partnered with City Year to beautify the Washington Prep campus.
Washington Prep senior Anthony Whitsey is a multisport athlete who has competed in football, track and field, basketball, and baseball. This year marked his fourth year playing varsity football.
The effort that sophomore Gabriel Dean put in the Washington Prep football team helped them to a 5-2 overall record and a 3-0 Metro League record.
The Washington Generals attacked hard on offense, defense, and special teams to secure a 55-0 win over the Jordan Bulldogs. The victory gives Washington Prep a 4-2 overall record and Jordan now has a 5-2 overall record in their first Metro league loss.
The Netflix series “Last Chance U: Basketball” will once again feature the East Los Angeles College (ELAC) men’s basketball team for a second season. Viewers get another chance to witness the dynamic coach John E. Mosley as he leads the second best junior college program in the state.
Although their respective seasons are over, Sparks forward Reshanda Gray and Lakers guard Danny Green continue to galvanize marginalized communities in Los Angeles by encouraging citizens to vote for the November 3rd election.
Due to the Coronavirus delaying the start of the 2020 WNBA season, each team had to cut their roster to 12 players. This allowed players to receive their first paycheck in late June. To finalize their roster, the Sparks had to waive their rookies Beatrice Mompremier and Tynice Martin.
Washington Prep senior guard Joshua Lee helped the Generals boys’ basketball team get a 16-15 overall record. His contributions to the Generals earned him All-Coliseum League second team honors.

Since the beginning of 2020, the King/Drew Golden Eagles boys basketball team has been on a winning streak. With only four losses this season, the Golden Eagles are ranked 35 in the state.
The Manual Arts Toilers advanced to the semifinals of the Division II CIF City Section playoffs after shutting out the Kennedy Cougars 41-0.
