Destiny’s Child Kelly Rowland Kicks off Disney’s Dreamers Academy

Kelly Rowland proved an inspiration to 100 young and impressionable students who descended upon Disney World for the four-day 2022 Disney Dreamers Academy. Serving as this year’s celebrity ambassador for the program, Rowland led the students – called Dreamers – and others in a parade along Main Street in the Magic Kingdom. “This program really touches me,” Rowland declared. “I know how important it is, especially for students of color, when you think of the STEM aspect of this. We need STEM and STEAM because there’s such a big void there.”

Long Beach Public Library Debuts STEAM Programming

The Long Beach Public Library announced today “CurioCity: STEAM and Beyond!,” a free in-person series of programs for youth ages 12 and up interested in science, technology, engineering, arts and math.
 

“Long Beach is a hub of technology and innovation,” Mayor Robert Garcia said in a statement. “We are excited that the library is offering this type of unique programming designed to engage our community and especially our youth in these subjects.”

Superintendent Tony Thurmond Announces $420,000 in Grants to the Bridging the Digital Divide Fund to Benefit Students in Southern California

State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Tony Thurmond announced that Southern California Gas Company (SoCalGas) and San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E), in partnership with The San Diego Foundation, have donated a total of $420,000 to the Bridging the Digital Divide Fund. SDG&E and The San Diego Foundation’s grant of $100,000 to the Classroom of the Future Foundation will address digital divide among tribal K-12 youth in San Diego County. SoCalGas’ portion of $320,000 will be split into five grants to separate organizations in Southern California for specific work to close the digital divide. SoCalGas and SDG&E are part of the Sempra Energy family of companies.
