L.A. Care Awards $3.6 Million for Physician Recruitment

L.A. Care Health Plan, the largest publicly-operated health plan in the country, has announced the first round of Provider Recruitment Program grants as part of its Elevating the Safety Net initiative. The mission of the $31 million initiative is to recruit highly-qualified primary care physicians to the Los Angeles County safety net. The safety net is comprised of health care providers who offer access to care regardless of a patient’s ability to pay, and whose patient population includes a substantial share of the Medicaid population and the uninsured. 

The Gouché Foundation Scholarship Luncheon

he Gouché Foundation announced that it will be hosting its 1st Annual College Signing Day & Scholarship Awards Luncheon, awarding $12,000 in college scholarships to inner city youth. The ceremony will take place on July 14, 2018 from 12-5pm at the California Yacht Club Cabrillo in San Pedro, CA. The luncheon will end with twelve high school graduates walking away with scholarships totaling $1k each, in an effort to assist them on their path to higher education.

The incident, which occurred on West 25th Street in San Pedro on Jan. 30, was shown by Buscaino on a large screen inside the council chamber and also posted to his YouTube and Facebook accounts. The councilman said the man was a “clear 5150 patient” — the term refers to an involuntary psychiatric hold — and that the incident occurred a few blocks over the border from Rancho Palos Verdes, which is patrolled by the LASD.
