Rev. Dr. Frederick Murph Passes, Homegoing Service Set

The Los Angeles faith community bid farewell to the Rev. Dr. Frederick Ormonde Murph on June 2. A dedicated minister who served in California for decades, he was well known in the Los Angeles-area as the pastor of Brookins Community AME Church from 1996 to 2008. Dr. Murph passed from a non-COVID related illness at the age of 67. A celebration of his life is scheduled for Thursday, June 18, at Greater Bethel Cathedral, 4831 S. Gramercy Place in Los Angeles. A viewing will take place from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and the service will start at 11 a.m.

The Los Angeles faith community extended a fond farewell to Mrs. Geraldine Stiles Murph, who passed away on Oct. 15, at the age of 100-years-old. Long admired for her intelligence, humility and grace, Geraldine made a lasting impression as a first lady, missionary, and AME Episcopal Supervisor as the wife of the late Bishop Henry W. Murph, Sr. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, Oct. 27, at 11 a.m., at New Vision Ministries, 2400 Southwest Drive in Los Angeles. Her son, the Rev. Dr. Frederick O. Los Angeles resident Henry Wendell Murph, Jr., passed away on January 13. He was 69 years old. The viewing will be held on Friday, January 22, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Inglewood Cemetery Mortuary, 3801 W. Manchester Blvd., in Inglewood.
