California is receiving historic amounts of rain, and there is more wet weather on the way. In addition to setting records throughout Southern and Northern California, the heavy rainfall is also causing reduced visibility, making it harder for drivers to see other vehicles, hazards, pedestrians, and cyclists.
Over the last few weeks storms have torn through many of California’s communities, prompting evacuations in areas like Planada and Merced due to widespread flooding.
A strong storm system is expected to drench much of Southern California with rain and cover mountaintops with snow beginning tonight and peaking Tuesday. National Weather Service forecasters have dubbed it “the most significant storm of the season.”
In anticipation of severe weather due to El Niño, the city of Compton has announced the opening of their Winter Shelter Program. The program will operate through March 31, 2016 and provides meals, access to showers and transportation to and from shelter locations for participants.
