(AP) — Police in Kansas are investigating a shooting that killed one current Washburn University football player and injured a former player just hours after he was drafted by the New York Giants. Topeka police say officers found 23-year-old defensive back Dwayne Simmons dead when they investigated gunshots shortly before 1 a.m. Sunday. Former NFL star Plaxico Burress pleads guilty to tax evasion

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — Former NFL star Plaxico Burress pleaded guilty Monday to New Jersey tax evasion charges after reaching a plea deal that could potentially spare him any jail time. Burress, 38, of Totowa, declined to comment on the plea he entered in state Superior Court, telling reporters to “have a good day” as he left the courtroom. Burress faces up to five years of probation when he’s sentenced on Feb. 5.
