USC quarterback Caleb Williams won the 2022 Heisman trophy in New York today. Williams became the first Trojan to win the Heisman since running back Reggie Bush in 2005 and the third USC quarterback to hoist the coveted trophy.
Caleb Williams, the effervescent quarterback, ruled the day in the Trojan’s 38-27 win. Williams put on an electric performance, passing for 232 yards, completing 18 of 22 passes, nine carries for 35 yards, scoring three touchdowns on the ground, and throwing for one score.
USC Fires Football Coach Clay Helton USC football coach Clay Helton was fired Monday, with university Athletic Director Mike Bohn calling him “one of the finest human beings I have met in the industry” but saying he believes the team will have a greater chance of success this season under new leadership. USC Trojans took a disappointing loss in the Pac-12 Championship 31-24 against the Oregon Ducks. The Trojans attempted to make a fourth-quarter comeback after being down 14, but they could not reach their goal of winning the Pac-12 for the first time since 2017, as their undefeated season came to an end.
Former USC football star Reggie Bush was welcomed back into the Trojan family today as his 10-year, NCAA-mandated ban from the school over a recruiting scandal officially expired.
In a letter to Bush, USC President Carol L. Folt wrote, “I am pleased to inform you that all restrictions and prohibitions on your involvement in our athletics program are officially removed and you will be afforded the privileges and courtesies extended to all Trojan football alumni.”
Southern California hired Mike Bohn as its new athletic director on Thursday, breaking from tradition to turn over the program to a veteran collegiate sports administrator with no ties to the school.
