Prop 26 Threatens to Hurt Minority Communities in Compton 

As the mayor of Compton, I am proud of the many contributions our local cardroom makes to our city’s economy. The money generated from this local business directly impacts vital city services like addressing homelessness, senior services and implementing green energy initiatives. 

Church and State Unite to Hold Conference for Formerly Incarcerated

Apostle Ronald C. Hill, Sr. of Love and Unity Christian Fellowship will host the “Life Before & After Prison Conference” for the formerly incarcerated, featuring, among many highlights, the testimony of former mayor and congressman Pastor Walter R. Tucker III of Truth and Love Christian Church. The day and a half conference will be held on the evening of Friday, September 9 at 7:00 p.m. and all day on Saturday, September 10 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Emma Sharif Elected Mayor of Compton

In a runoff election held on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 Councilwoman Emma Sharif was elected Mayor of the City of Compton.  Sharif who defeated newcomer Christian Reynaga by almost 10% of the vote is replacing Mayor Aja Brown who after 8 years decided not to seek re-election.

Ava DuVernay hosts screening of “A Wrinkle in Time” for Compton youth titled, “A Wrinkle in Compton”

Magic, adventure, and excitement filled the air at Dollarhide Community Center where over 300 local middle school students arrived to watch a private screening of the new Disney film, “A Wrinkle in Time.” The event titled “A Wrinkle in Compton,” was held in the City of Compton and hosted by the city’s very own Mayor Aja Brown and the film’s award-winning director Ava DuVernay.
