CD-9 Welcomes Residents Applying for BIG:LEAP Program

The field office of Councilmember Curren Price, Jr. (CD 9) proved popular to South L.A. residents, who lined up on October 29, to apply for the BIG:LEAP – the Basic Income Guaranteed: Los Angeles Economic Assistance Program. Through BIG:LEAP, 3,000 qualified recipients will get $1,000 per month starting the end of January 2022. The payments will be issued for 12 months with no-strings-attached or conditions on how the funds must be spent. LAFD Women Firefighters Group: Chief Ignored Abuse Reports, Should be Removed

A coalition of women firefighters at the Los Angeles Fire Department today called for Fire Chief Ralph Terrazas to be
removed for allegedly ignoring allegations of sexism, harassment and abuse endured by women at the department.
In a letter to Mayor Eric Garcetti, the Los Angeles Women in the Fire Service alleged that Terrazas “has ignored, downplayed, denied or actively obstructed any investigation into the cultural problems with LAFD.”

LA to Invest $30 Million in Solar Storage Program Using City-Owned Buildings

As Los Angeles sets out to achieve 100% renewable energy by 2035, city officials announced a $30 million investment today in a municipal solar and storage program using city-owned buildings across departments.
   “We’re celebrating not just another milestone in our fight against climate change, but also a step to build a more sustainable city starting with buildings that the city owns, the city controls and the city can lead by example in making sure that we have renewable energy,” Mayor Eric Garcetti said at a downtown news conference.

L.A. Metro Board To Appoint Metrolink CEO Stephanie Wiggins as Metro CEO

The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority Board of Directors is scheduled to appoint Stephanie Wiggins, current CEO of Metrolink, to lead L.A. Metro. The current L.A. Metro CEO, Phillip A. Washington, announced on Feb. 3 that he is stepping down in May after six years. The Board of Directors conducted a national search for the next CEO and will vote during its Board of Directors meeting at 3 p.m. Thursday to appoint Wiggins. Once appointed, Wiggins’ four-year term at Metro CEO will begin between May 30 and June 14. Her annual salary is set at $400,004.80 and her term will be extendable by a pair of one-year

Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority CEO Phillip A. Washington is stepping down after six years at the helm of the transit agency, it was announced today. Washington informed the Metro board, headed by Mayor Eric Garcetti, that he does not plan to seek a new contract or extend his current contract, which expires in May.
