The city of Los Angeles has set aside $12.4 million to help house the homeless and provide more temporary shelter during El Nino storms expected this winter, Mayor Eric Garcetti and Los Angeles City Council members announced last week. The funding, proposed by Garcetti and approved by the City Council, includes $10 million for “rapid re-housing” subsidies for nearly 1,000 transients to help them with rent or move-in costs. Councilmember Marqueece Harris-Dawson hosted a holiday celebration at Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza Saturday, December 12, to bring in the holiday season with local children and families. The festive event, featured real snow, food from local restaurants, a toy giveaway, and a musical performance by the Oasis Choir, a local senior citizens group. Nearly 1,200 children attended the event and chose from gifts donated by local merchants and event sponsors.
