Councilmember Marqueece Harris-Dawson hosted a holiday celebration at Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza Saturday, December 12, to bring in the holiday season with local children and families. The festive event, featured real snow, food from local restaurants, a toy giveaway, and a musical performance by the Oasis Choir, a local senior citizens group. Nearly 1,200 children attended the event and chose from gifts donated by local merchants and event sponsors.
“It was truly an honor to come together with families in the Crenshaw Community to usher in the season of giving,” stated Councilmember Marqueece Harris-Dawson. Encouraging community members to get into the spirit of giving he stated, “There isn’t a more fitting time than the holidays to give back to the people who surround you, deepen relationships and build a stronger sense of community.”
One of the biggest highlights of the event was a winter wonderland, which included sledding, snow angel making and snowball fights. The BHCP Kids’ Club hosted an arts and crafts area and 93.5 KDAY hosted a live giveaway on-site. Event sponsors included AT&T, Southern California Gas Company, Time Warner Cable, and United Food and Commercial Workers Local 770.
