Lora Ary Elected President of Greater L.A. AARP Chapter

L.A. resident Lora Ary is the new president of the Greater Los Angeles AARP Chapter #5117.  Ary and the chapter’s new officers were installed on March 10 by Councilmember Heather Hutt during the group’s monthly meeting held in the LADWP community room in South L.A. 

Brookins-Kirkland AME Salutes Black Heritage

Pastor Mary S. Minor and members of Brookins-Kirkland Community AME Church recently held a salute to the U.S. Postal Service’s Black Heritage Stamp Series. During the event, which was sponsored by the church’s Senior Adult Ministry, attendees could obtain the August Wilson, Gwen Ifill, Marvin Gaye, Ray Charles and other stamps featuring African Americans.

Brookins-Kirkland AME Holds Gwen Ifill Stamp Tribute

On Feb. 23, Pastor Mary S. Minor and the congregation of Brookins-Kirkland Community AME Church in Los Angeles paid tribute to the late journalist, Gwen Ifill, who is featured on the U.S. Postal Service’s 2020 Black Heritage Stamp and members who worked for the post office.

Brookins-Kirkland AME Shows Appreciation to Pastor Minor

Brookins–Kirkland Community AME Church saluted the spiritual and executive leadership of Pastor Mary S. Minor during an appreciation service on October 15. The theme was “Our Pastor Shows Love Still Works” based on I Corinthians 13:1-13. The Steward and Trustee Boards sponsored the program. Pastor Darryl Walker and the members of New Philadelphia Church were the special guests. The pastor’s family also attended the service. In addition, Minor took time to recognize Trustee Willie Mayes (right) on his recent appointment as an air traffic controller for the Federal Aviation Administration.
