Los Angeles City Mayor Eric Garcetti Announces LA Represents: Pro Bono Legal Services Available to all Angelenos affected by COVID-19 Pandemic

Tuesday, May 5, Los Angeles City Mayor Eric Garcetti provided news surrounding the recovery stages of the COVID-19 pandemic. Garcetti disclosed current statistics developing in the coronavirus outbreak. The mayor touched on proper protocols that will be in place for local businesses to adhere to, there is still a severe level of precaution to take in order to move forward in a new era safely. The Los Angeles Mayor and Los Angeles City Attorney Mike Feuer announced the Launch of LA Represents, legal services that are offered free of charge that will assist Angelenos facing problems within leasing contracts and business agreements. Mayor Garcetti is looking to have every Angeleno in a stabilized condition, as L.A. faces a new way of operation in post pandemic time.

Rep. Maxine Waters Working for the 43rd District During the Coronavirus Pandemic

On March 19 and April 2, Congresswoman Waters conducted the first two in a series of 43rd District telephone town hall meetings that included approximately 19,000 and 15,000 local residents, respectively. Her calls featured presentations by the Los Angeles County Department of Health, the IRS, the Small Business Administration, all of the school districts in the 43rd District, LA Metro, LA Homeless Services Authority, LA Regional Food Bank, Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles, Watts Health Care, South Bay Family Health Clinic, and UMMA Community Clinic. 

Crossroads UMC Hosts Expungement Clinic

Crossroads United Methodist Church led the way for a community collaboration and partnership that helped nealy100 people start clearing up their criminal records. The Compton Church hosted the Fresh Start Expungement Clinic on Feb. 25, its second in the past two years, and has made the event a core part of its outreach. “This type of community engagement is necessary and it is important that the faith community lead the way,” said the Rev. Adrienne Zackery, pastor of Crossroads UMC.  “Our vision is to help transform the lives of thousands of formerly incarcerated person in need of a second chance.”
