LAX Anticipates Another Record-Breaking Thanksgiving Holiday and Reminds Guests to Plan for Extra Time at The Airport

Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) is forecasting another record-setting Thanksgiving holiday travel period this year, with an estimated 3.21 million passengers during the 14 days surrounding the Thanksgiving holiday. That is roughly equivalent to 80% of the entire population of Los Angeles projected to travel through LAX this Thanksgiving holiday. Last year saw long lines and backed up traffic during peak days, and with more people expected and the addition of construction, this year is expected to be no different. It is vital for travelers to plan ahead and understand the new reality of how construction and record crowds will create challenging conditions at the nation’s second-busiest airport this holiday season.

LAX-it Pickup Lot at Airport Set to Expand

The much-debated LAX-it pickup lot for taxis and ride-hailing services at Los Angeles International Airport got 50 percent bigger today in an effort to alleviate complaints about extended wait times, particularly during peak hours.

LAWA IN MIDST OF ACTIONS TO IMPROVE LAX-IT OPERATIONS

Since the opening of LAX-it, airport officials have been actively assessing and responding to traffic and behavioral changes in a dynamic environment at LAX-it, in the Central Terminal Area (CTA), and in surrounding communities. While 31,783 vehicles have been removed from the CTA and record travel times are taking place, the peak periods of arriving passengers typically between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. have resulted in shuttle and passenger wait times exceeding 45 minutes.
